This week we kind of examined musicblog Nova-Express. That meant a lot of industrial music and experimental rock of the 80’s (Cabaret Voltaire for instance). But of course the weekly yodel lesson was also part of this show, plus some field recordings from Tibet, made by Geir Jensen. And again just one hour was way too short.
Update: Download link now available.

Remote Jeroen far too remote to be part of this transmission. Freeform for today with not a music blog review but a pointer to the FreeMusicArchive. A great library for copy right free music with a creative commons licence that you can use for your blog, documentary or anything else. The rest is a rig of music ranging from sound poetry to noisecore, breakcore and numerology. And not to forget a new installment of the Yodel course.

Music blog focus of this week is Continuo, the blog specializing in more or less obscure audio by visual artists and composers. It is a great companion to UbuWeb where it shares some collectors items like the Tellus cassette series and MusicWorks series produced by John Oswald. Show started with the second installment of Jodel lessons.
A recalcitrant cable modem impaired Remote Jeroen’s continuity of streaming music from Wirdum, Fr. We will go after that pesky UPC as soon as we can, stay tuned, stay Edge.

Yes, we did it, a daring program with mostly edgy disco beats: death disco, bizarre disco, paradisco, industrial disco, electroclash.., but also the infamous beats of Dat Politics and Kid606. What else does one want heading into a hot summer break? Karl Marx? Football? Politics? Till next Edge, somewhere end of August..

or is it just freeform, radio programming without a theme or clue what to play next. Anyway, a great discovery this week: “Das Original Oberkreuzberger Nasenflötenorchester – der Grindchor” really wonderful stuff. Contemporary bagpipe music from David Watson (album “Skirl”), electronic music from Iran, Wim T. Schippers’ Billen Om Op Te Zitten, the always amazing Bill Hicks, Ernst Jandl, Jean-Jacques Perrey & Luke Vibert doing some moogy acid house, quite a feat for an 80 year old! And some more random musics.

Music that ticked us over from the mainstream. Nurse with Wound, Laibach, Einstürzende Neubauten, Frank Zappa, John Zorn & Naked City, David J., Mahavishnu Orchestra. Those were the days..

This week we decided to go and see if we could find some gems from the Scandinavian experimental music subcultures. And yes did we find some great material, some familiar (M.A. Numminen, Rune Lindblad, Arne Nordheim, Maja Ratkje), some new (some Rune Grammofon artists and great folk music from Lapland, courtesy of the great Smithsonian Folkways series).
