Edge2.155: Field recordings

This week’s broadcast started with a historic broadcast, the announcement of the former Soviet Union of the first man in space: Juri Gagarin. Which coincides with the new Juri Gagarin statue in London. Recordings: dogs in NYC and Sweden, anti-hitler blues, Polyphonic singing from Sardinia, Trinidad Field Recordings, Animal Music/Tiermusik. Intermixed with birds from London and beeps from the supermarket counter. Four mixed up tracks from Tortura, the sounds of pleasure and pain (Marquis de Sade) and live sound from below the ice cap on Antarctica.

Enough stuff to enjoy.

Edge2.153 Water

Water has always been a favorite source to record. This week Edge dived into the world of water and dug up some familiar and unfamiliar sounds. Gordon Monahan and Patrich Ready demonstrated a Musical Water Jet. Chinese water torture of Spencer Yen, synthetic water by electronic pioneer composer Piero Umiliani, The Water Cycle Song by Tom Glazer (Singing Science Records), Mineko Grimmer, Yves Daoust with Water Music and Stomp’s Waterphonics. This list is incomplete and can’t be verified because the automated radio program recordings at the OOG Radio studio seem to have failed since mid day..

Sorry, no download.

Edge2.152 Mostly organ

A few weeks ago at the Isstjärnan ice festival in Sweden, Arthur Elsenaar and Jeroen Meijer experimented with organ pipes build from blocks of ice. This resulted in an Arctic Drone Organ, large up to 4 meter high pipes resonating on the burst of computer-controlled gas flames. A highly paradoxical experiment as playing the organ at the same time would destroy it through the rapid melting of the ice. Powerful drones resonating around the 20 Hz primary harmonic.

Among a few other musics, mostly organ music this week; Apparat Organ Quartet from Iceland featuring 4 organist and 1 drummer.. what else was played? Listen in below to find out!

Instead, Remote Jeroen was streamed through ugly beast WinAmp, but haven’t noticed any deteriorating effects, Remote Jeroen sounded like any other. So what did we play this week? Find out by clicking below.

No Yodel lessons, to be continued next week.
